The season is here, a time we all seem to over indulge in good food and alcohol consumption! Here are a few nuggets on how to stay healthy and safe. ROAD TRIPS- saving the lives of accident victims

The end of the year is here again, a whole lot of traveling goes on. The highways are at the busiest during this time, unfortunately at this time, road accidents occur most. I recently saw some videos of accidents. Most of the victims were alive, some had physical wounds, some were bleeding profusely, and some had no physical injuries and just lay on the ground. Other road users were trying to give help as much as they could, taking victims out of vehicles, others were making videos, some were hysterical, crying and praying. Others were saying to the victims “you will not die”, “do you have a phone number we can call?”…………………… Unfortunately, I did not see anyone equipped with a first aid box! The method of evacuating victims from the vehicles was mostly wrongly carried out. Having first aid skill and having a first aid box/kit are essential especially when embarking on road trips. Every 14 th of November is World Diabetes Day and a lot of info is put out on how to best manage the condition, what predisposes a person to diabetes, latest trends in its management etc. So here, we share our thoughts on diabetes, but with a bias on managing DIABETIC EMERGENCIES Diabetes is a lifelong medical condition where the body cannot produce enough insulin. Insulin is a chemical made by the pancreas (a gland behind the stomach), which regulates the blood sugar (glucose) level in the body. Normally our bodies automatically keep the right blood sugar levels, but for someone with diabetes their body can't. Instead, they have to control the blood sugar level themselves by monitoring what they eat, and taking insulin injections or pills. Sometimes people who have diabetes may have a diabetic emergency, where their blood sugar becomes either too high or too low.
