Are you at risk of sleep apnea ?

Image
Knowing the risk factors helps one make an assessment of the chances of suffering the consequences of sleep apnea and then make deliberate efforts to reduce the chances of experiencing sleep apnea Here is a rundown of them👇 -weight. Overweight or obese people  -those with a wide neck circumference  -those with a family history of sleep apnea  -age. Those older than 50 -males -hypertensive patients  -diabetes patients  -smokers -race. Africans,African Americans  -those who experience irregular heartbeats  -those who consume alcohol  -those who have had heart failure  -those who use sedatives or tranquilizers  On this list of risk factors, there are those within the control of someone who suffers sleep apnea or those susceptible to it. So lifestyle choices can reduce the risk if you are susceptible.  #SleepApnea #SleepDisorder #SilentDisease #SilentKiller #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

Intro:Sleep apnea

Image
Sleep apnea is when someone stops breathing temporarily while sleeping. It is a potentially dangerous sleep disorder. Breathing stops and starts again repeatedly during sleep. Let's tell you how this happens. 👇 Did you know that when you sleep that the muscles of your body relax? They actually take a rest😁. Sometimes they relax too much🙄. When this happens, the muscles around the windpipe/trachea (takes air/oxygen from nose and mouth to the lungs) rest on the windpipe and this is the reason people snore🤦‍♀️, sometimes people can even stop breathing for a bit 😱 (because air flow has been obstructed). So you now know why people snore and how someone can stop breathing while sleeping. It is possible that you suffer sleep apnea if you snore. If sleep apnea happens the brain senses the person has stopped breathing and so wakes them up so you can resume breathing. This arousal is brief, you might not even remember 🤔. Have you ever slept by someone and you heard the pers...

First aid skills? Got any,

Image
I have lost about 2 friends because no one present knew what to do when a medical emergency happened and professional help was not a whisper away. Having first aid skills can stop a bad situation from getting worse, prevent loss of life and promote quick recovery.  Become a life saver and make a  difference, you just never know when duty will call. Truth is you mustn't be medical personnel to  give first aid. Its first aid, the first aid the casualty gets before professional aid is accessed! #FirstAid #FirstAidSavesLives #BeFirstAidLearned #BeFABulouS #TheFABS #TheFirstAidBoxShop

Do you have a first aid kit

Image
First aid is the immediate care given to a person who has been injured or has been suddenly ill.  It includes both self-help and home care if medical assistance is not available or delayed.  Having a first aid kit/box is one of the requirements of being prepped for a medical emergency.  Do you have a first aid kit/box ot a medicine cabinet? In these times of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are not enthusiastic about going to the hospital for every single medical scenario.  So you'll need to have OTC (Over The Counter) meds at your disposal. Sometimes even if you have to make that trip to the hospital, some pre-hospital (first aid care) care makes a great deal of difference. The FABS Ankara Trapezoid First Aid Kit is a reliable ally during a medical emergency while on transit and even at home or the office, though it is an automobile first aid kit.  Send us a DM let's help you stay prepped for medical emergencies.  #FirstAid #FirstAidSavesLives #FirstA...

Are you first aid learned???

Image
WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO???!!! So you are alone with someone with any of the following👇 1.Alcohol intoxication 2.Allergies  3.Asthma attack 4.Bone fracture/broken bones/dislocations 5.Burns, which can result in damage to tissues and loss of body fluids through the burn site (or burn of any degree) 6.Choking/breathing problems, blockage of the airway which can quickly result in death due to lack of oxygen if the patient’s trachea is not cleared 7.Constipation 8.Cramps  9.Dehydration 10.Diarrhea 11.Electric shock 12.Eye injuries & irritations 13.Heavy bleeding 14.Unconscious & breathing 15.Unconscious & not breathing ......oh well, the list is almost endless, but you get the drift. Would you know the right first aid intervention to employ and then preserve a life or prevent a bad situation from getting worse or promote quick recovery? #BeFirstAidLearned #BeFABulouS #TheFABS #TheFirstAidBoxShop

Thoughts on preventing fatty liver disease

Image
We mentioned earlier that NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) doesn't have a definite cause😐, mind boggling yes, but steps can be taken still to prevent it.  NAFLD can be prevented by the following 👇 - maintaining a healthy weight  - ensuring cholesterol levels are within a healthy range always -  ensuring blood sugar levels ate within a healthy range always - ditch the sedentary lifestyle and be active, exercise  In a nutshell, healthy diet choices and regular exercise will keep NAFLD at bay. It is better to be proactive and prevent fatty liver disease, in fact any ailment at all, tgan yo be reactive and begin managing an ailment.  To prevent AFLD, cut down on the booze or completely take it out, you should also include the preventive measures of NAFLD. To enjoy a long life in great health, we have to be intentional about our lifestyle choices.  Even if one does have a silent disease already, the choice to live healthy will afford you t...

Risk factors for fatty liver disease

Image
You don't want to know hassle people with liver cirrhosis go through, 🤔🥺😔. It started with fatty liver disease! The cause(s) NAFLD isn't known, alcohol is the chief cause of AFLD. So if you consume alcohol excessively, you are at risk. Moderation comes in very handy here. Here is a list of conditions or lifestyle choices that puts you at risk of fatty liver disease 👇 - excessive alcohol consumption  - high cholesterol levels  - obesity or being overweight  - people who have had gastric bypass surgery   - those who have type 2 diabetes  - underactive thyroid gland  - underactive pituitary gland  - polycystic ovary syndrome  - sleep apnea - people with wide waist circumference  Most times fatty liver disease is preventable, it is important to monitor and maintain health numbers (blood sugar numbers, BMI, BP, LDL...) Adopting a healthy lifestyle does nothing but good 👍 #FattyLiverDisease #NonAlcoholicFattyLiverDisease #NAFLD #Al...

Fatty Liver Disease 101

Image
Here is another silent disease. At the initial stage there are no obvious signs or symptoms.  One of the functions of the liver is to produce bile which is responsible for breaking down fats so that they can be easily digested/absorbed.  Fatty liver is when more than 10% of the liver is fat. With fatty liver disease, the liver is unable to breakdown fats and this causes fat to build up in the tissues of the liver. There are 2 types of fatty liver disease.  1) non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The causeis vague  2) alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). This is caused by excessive consumption of alcohol  Fatty liver can degenerate to liver fibrosis and then liver cirrhosis, which is the final stage of liver damage and it's not reversible 😔 It's so important that we prevent damage to our organs as they are not easily replaced, being careless with our health is too much of a risk🤔 #FattyLiverDisease #NonAlcoholicFattyLiverDisease #NAFLD #Alcoh...

Preventing COPD

Image
Spare lungs are not easy to come by, so it's utterly important to preserve thebones we have. One of the leading causes of COPD is smoking,  so quit smoking if you smoke and if you don't, smoke, avoid being a passive smoker If you are exposed to chemicals and it's fumes, smoke or dust, ensure you use respiratory protective gears Engage in routine comprehensive medical checks for early detection of COPD, as the health of the lungs can be assessed  Healthy lifestyle choices does nothing but overall good for you.  #ChronicObstructivePulmonaryDisease #COPD #LungsHealth #SilentDisease #SilentKiller #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

Who is at risk of COPD?🤔

Image
Remember COPD is a silent disease and it makes a whole lot of sense to prevent the lungs from being damaged than to fix a badly damaged one. So who are those in danger of COPD??? Yes, your first guess was right  -Smokers of all kinds. Long term cigarette smoking , smokers of cigars, pipe smokers, smokers of weed and passive smokers  - Those with a family history of COPD  -Those who work in industries that expose them to certain chemicals and their fumes, dust or smoke -Those who have asthma  - Those who are continually exposed to fumes and smoke from burning thrash, fumes and smoke from burning fuel/wood used in cooking There is nothing you can do if there is an occurence of COPD in your family history however you can greatly reduce your risk protecting yourself with PPE if your work exposes you to fumes and smoke or as much as possible avoid smoky areas and quit smoking.  #ChronicObstructivePulmonaryDisease #COPD #SilentDisease #SilentKiller #Smoker...

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Image
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a problem with the lungs. There is an obstruction of airflow from the lungs. It makes breathing difficulty.  It is a silent disease as it's signs and symptoms are not glaring until it has caused significant damage to the lungs. It progressively worsens over time. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are 2 presentations of COPD. People living with COPD are prone to heart diseases and other medical conditions.  COPD is preventable and can be treated but of course prevention is so much better than a cure. #ChronicObstructivePulmonaryDisease #COPD #LungDisease #SilentDisease #SilentKiller #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

Silent DiseaseHepatitis

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver. It can cause very distressing health challenges and can even cause death😔 At the early stages, it doesn't present with obvious signs and symptoms. It is mostly a viral infection.  There are 5 types: Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. They are preventable, especially with vaccines. However Hepatitis C isn't preventable by vaccination.  Hepatitis A & E is caused by consuming contaminated water, drinks and foods. While Hepatitis B, C & D are caused sexual contact, contaminated blood & bodily fluids. #Hepatitis #SilentDisease #SilentKiller #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS
