Dogs are man's best friend!🥰So, why do they bite?🤔 Dogs seem to win the popularity vote on being the pet of choice award, maybe  it's because of their premium loyalty card or their super protectiveness.  When they are puppies they are almost the most cute creatures you'll ever see. However they have been known to bite and cause untold pain to their owners😭.  We don't love them any less. The most popular options for pets are cats and dogs! They make such awesome playmates for kids. They are great companions for families Dogs especially double up as an option to boost security,  though not all breeds. When they are young (kittens and puppies) , they are so cute and adorable. However they can suddenly cause pains with their bites. Either to owners, guests, complete strangers or intruders. At other times, completely stray cats and dogs bite their victims and cause pain and distress. DALMATIANS 🥰🤗😘 I was in secondary school already when my pops decided it was time for our family to own dogs as pets and may be add to security measures.  My uncle Ralph was the one who helped us acquire our first set of dogs. He brought us these lovely puppies. They were like nothing we had ever seen. He told us they were dalmatians. Not common at all in Nigeria.  They were beautiful, they were cute. One had black spots while the other had spots that were a shade of brown. I think it was my mom that named them. The male which was black and white was called Chiba while the female which was white and brown was called Timi. Chiba was the extroverted one😁 and Timi had a sad quiet look (from cradle to the grave 😔) My pops ensured that our dogs had all the basics and extras. WORLD SIGHT DAY (WSD) 2020  Did you know today is World sight day? Have you gotten an assessment on your eye health from the ophthalmologist, optometrist or optician? World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, this year, it falls on the 8th of October.  The plan is to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year the theme: Hope In Sight. And oh yes there is hope in sight, a lot of advances has been made through science and technology and hope for saving sight is getting better and better for even conditions that previously were without solutions.  We all should endeavor to have routine checks on our eyes, they are windows we don't want to lose.   If we have family history of sight and eye issues, then we should take eyes and sight issues even more seriously.  Hook up with an ophthalmologist, optometrist and optician and get those eyes checked. CATS & DOGS  We have people and families who love and keep pets.  Pets are kept for a variety of reasons, sometimes for companionship (especially kids and the elderly), security, for status, the list goes on. Some people love to keep exotic pets e.g. wild cats (lions, tigers...), snakes,  primates. Others are less adventurous and keep domesticated animals e.g. birds, cats, dogs and a host of other animals. The most commonly kept pets are cats and dogs.  Irrespective of what animal is kept as a pet, the act of raising a pet comes with responsbilities and certain risks.The risks are raised extremely when wild animals are kept as pets. However,  even domesticated animals have their risks as well, chief of which is "bites". Cats and dogs are the most common animals used as pets. Responsibilities of having pets includes, training them, ensuring their health is taken care of, making sure vaccinations are up to date, providing the right and conducive shelter, feeding

Even after the initial first aid care administered for human bites, there might still be a need to make that hospital visit. Remember,  first aid is the first help that is given to someone who has being injured or suddenly fallen ill. Sometimes professional care must still be accessed.  Here is a list of conditions that require a visit to the doctor's for human bites: -When direct pressure on the bite wound won't stop the bleed, even after 15 minutes  -When you think the bite caused a bone to break, when you suspect damage to nerve, tendons or joint -If the bite gets infected -If the victim is diabetic  -If the victim has a compromised immune system as a result of an illness (e.g. cancer, AIDS...) -If there is tissue loss as a result of the bite -Not up to date on tetanus vaccination  -If the bite is deep -Bites on face, feet, hands, genitalia, head/scalp (especially for kids), ear, nose  -If they experience stiffness, numbness or lack of mobility in the affected ar

FIRST AID CARE FOR HUMAN BITES  Now, this is the juice of the matter.😁 Early first aid intervention helps prevent  the occurrence of an infection,  especially if the bite is deep.  Some bites can be minor (mild trauma) while others could be major (moderate to severe  trauma). The majority of human bites dont bleed profusely, but if a major blood vessel is affected (especially in certain parts of the body e.g. neck), then blood loss will be much. For profuse blood loss, apply direct pressure for about 10 minutes, if possible,  elevate the bleeding part above heart level. This helps stop bleeding and prevent swelling. Before first aid care is commenced, wash hands thoroughly or use hand sanitizer. Wear gloves. These actions help in preventing infection of wounds and protects care giver. In a nutshell, first aid care for human bite is: -Stop the bleed - Clean the wound - Protect the wound - Take care of the pain (optional) - Access professional medical care if nee

The severity of signs and symptoms presented after a human bite would determine the scope of medical care HUMAN BITES- SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS  Signs and symptoms are generally obvious.  Some human bites can be really serious, at other times, they can be mild enough to be ignored.  These signs and symptoms include: - Skin breaks (this increases exposure to infections) - Bite marks/teeth marks on skin - Bleeding (intensity varies,depending on type of blood vessel affected) - Pain - Swelling  - Tissue loss - Bruise marks The range of injuries sustained from human bites vary from those that can be totally managed at home or school to those that require a trip to the hospital for more expert care, even after first aid care has been administered initially.  #Bites #HumanBites #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

Did you know that there are different types of human bites?🤔 Hmmmmmmm Ok, bites are basically classified into  1) Clenched or Closed Fist Bites 2) Occlusive Bites There are classifications of bites and you mst have experienced one or more. Here we go i) Self inflicted bites- mistakeningly biting ones lips, jamming your knuckles against your teeth, having a fall and biting on the lips ii) Hickey or love bites- caused by kissing or sucking of the skin iii) Bites during play- during play, kids bite each other or even adults iv) Bites during fights- these are intentional  Some bites, irrespective of the classification could be really severe. Could Human bites be dangerous?🤔 Human bites......accidental.....yes sometimes.  Human bites......intentional............quite often HUMAN BITES Obviously, a human bite is injury caused by human teeth. They could be self inflicted or injury caused on another. Did you know human bites can be dangerous? Especially if there is a break in the skin as a result of the bite, as there is the risk of the injury getting infected. Some bites are severe, not only breaking tge skin but causing severing or a chunk of flesh to be lost. Sometimes the depth of injury is little. At other times there is no break of skin, just pain and bite marks or a bruise Human bites are more common with kids, but of cause adults too suffer bites. Human bites can be intentional, at other times, they are absolute mistakes. Intentional bites occur during fights.
