DANGEROUS MYTHS ABOUT CPR

Image
I came across these series of short videos created by American Heart Association on Emergency Live, featuring survivors and rescuers who talked about the importance of CPR and dispel common myths about this lifesaving skill. Many people are afraid of doing CPR because they think they’ll hurt someone. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival. Your actions can only help. Check out these videos to learn how any injury caused by performing CPR properly is either rare or not serious. #CPRSavesLives #GetFirstAidSkills #GetAFirstAidKit/Box  #BePrepared #BeFABulouS    Source:  Emergency Live

MANY WOMEN'S NIGHTMARE:- HOW TO DEAL WITH THAT PAIN THAT MAKES YOU DREAD YOUR MENSTRUAL PERIOD (PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA)

Image
Primary dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain that is not associated with any  pelvic   disease. It is the commonest cause of painful menstrual flow and is easily diagnosed from its presentation. Causes Once the blood  progesterone  level that maintains the  endometrial  lining during the  luteal  or premenstrual phase of the  menstrual cycle   begins to decline, some substances e.g.  prostaglandins  and  leukotrienes are released within the  endometrium  that actively results in increased  tone  and  contractions  of the  uterus (womb) which are then perceived as  colicky  pains often referred to as menstrual cramps. It is believed that the increased  uterine  muscle tone and  contractions , results in reduced blood flow into the  endometrium  causing the pain that is characteristic of primary dysmenorrhea. Presentation This presents commonly...

MEN MORE LIKELY THAN WOMEN TO NEED CPR AFTER SEX

Image
According to an article written by The Times of London , Men are more likely than women to need CPR after sex. What!!! They go on to state that: Scientists have found that men are far more likely than women to suffer cardiac arrest during or after sex. They have also found that in only one in three cases does the overexerted amore (lover) receive what cardiologists term “bystander CPR,” but what everyone else would term “the very least a considerate lover could do”.  Even so, we should not worry too much. Keeling over during congress is very rare. Of the almost 5,000 sudden cardiac arrests identified by the scientists, 34 were linked to sexual activity. That equated to 1 per cent of all male cases and 0.1 per cent of all female ones, they reported at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association. Despite these odds, stories persist of men who died during sex. According to one account, Lord Palmerston met his end while entertaining a maid on a ...

15-YEAR-OLD PUTS-LEARNED CPR SKILLS TO THE TEST ON GRANDFATHER

Image
Richard Morgan, left, suffered cardiac arrest recently and survived because his granddaughter Shelby Morgan, 15, knew CPR. Shelby had just taken a CPR class in school a few days before. (Jesse Tinsley) I came across this article on   The Spokesman Review , of  15 year old  Shelby Morgan , who learnt the act of   Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)  at school and had to implement it 4 days later on her grandfather. THIS EMPHASIZES THE NEED FOR EVERYONE TO HAVE BASIC FIRST AID SKILLS, CPR KNOWLEDGE AND A FIRST AID BOX .  Talk about the " anxiety" she must have been going through at that moment and the thought of losing her grandfather but she was able to keep her nerves to do the needful. It goes to show that any one (no matter their age) can learn the skill of CPR and apply it when the need arises. The article was written by  Adrian Rogers on March 2014 . At the end you should ask yourself, "Am I prepared for an emergency situation ...
