HOW TO STOP A NOSEBLEED  There is a right way to stop a nosebleed  A nosebleed like any other bleed should be stopped ASAP.  Remember that we should endeavor to avoid blood loss as much as possible.  The steps to stop a nose are pretty simple and easy to follow: -It's best to let the casualty take a seat. If you are the one experiencing the nosebleed, take a seat -Help or ask them to tilt their head forward  or lean slightly forward. This aids the blood to flow out of the nostrils, instead of flowing through the throat and into the tummy, which could cause them to throw up -Firmly pinch together the soft part of the nose for 10 minutes. While this is going on,they should breathe through their mouth -The casualty shouldn't talk, swallow, spit or cough. The saliva can dribble into a handkerchief, some tissue or a container. -If the bleeding persists after 10 minutes, pinch the soft part of the nose again. Do this for another 10 minutes. In total, the nose can be p...

NOSEBLEEDS

Image
The name speaks for itself A Nosebleed is loss of blood through the nose Most nosebleeds don't need an ER visit, but sometimes they could be a telltale sign of more serious stuff, like an underlying illness If the blood loss is much, then it will demand a visit to the ER. If the bleed is as a result of a head injury and the blood loss is watery, an ER visit must be made Nosebleeds may look scary but mostly can be managed without a hospital visit Nosebleeds are common with kids, though adults could also get nosebleeds But, heyyyyy, are you prepped for a medical emergency? Do you have first aid skills? Do you have a first aid/kit? Give us a buzz, we got you covered #TheFABS #BeFABulouS

THE DO’S OF HOW TO STOP A BLEED

Here are the most essential steps to take when administering first aid for a bleed Always wear gloves when treating a wound Apply direct pressure to the wound using a clean cloth, towel, pad, or bandage for about 10 minutes; ask the casualty to do this themselves if possible Raise the injured part (if the wound or cut is on the arm or leg) above the heart and restrict movement to slow down blood loss Clean the wound with sterile saline or clean water before applying the dressing Use a sterile, non-adherent dressing that extends about 2cm past the edges of the wound Secure the pad to the wound with a bandage Replace the dressing at least once a day if it becomes wet or soiled with blood or pus If bleeding is severe or persistent, take the victim to the hospital or call EMS for an ambulance (for Lagos State, the numbers are 767 and 112) If the wound or cut is small, wash around and away from the cut or wound with soap and water Remove debris (grass, dirt stick....) from the wound (b...
