The original schedule for the celebration of World Hypertension Day is May 17th, but because of the Covid 19 pandemic it was re-set for October 17th. The theme for World Hypertension Day 2020 is " Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer"   The goal is to increase accuracy of high blood pressure (BP) measurement in all populations around the world.  Know Your Numbers (BP reading) with a goal of increasing high blood pressure (BP) awareness in all populations around the world. FIRST AID FOR MOSQUITO BITES Yeah, a little first aid care for mosquito bites 😁 Mosquito bites are not such a big deal for most people, irrespective of the specie that has caused the bite, they sometimes have the potential to cause an illness ( Encephalitis, Malaria, Yellow fever, West Nile Virus disease, Zika etc.) To manage the signs and symptoms that may present after a bite, the recommended first aid care are easy to comply with. Note that some mosquito bites are harmless However, if after a bit, symptoms (fevers, flu-like symptoms etc ) of an illness begin to pop up, then a laboratory investigation should be done and a treatment plan followed if the lab results are positive.  It's not advisable to pop meds without a laboratory result to back up the use of therapeutic meds. SOURCE OF MOSQUITOE BITES This is a no-brainer really. However, it's noteworthy to point out that it is the female mosquitoes that bite. They have mouth parts that can inject the skin and suck out blood. The male mosquitoes do not feed on blood, as they they do not produce eggs, hence have need for the protein. WORLD RESTART A HEART DAY So a cardiac arrest is one common scenario that causes a heart to stop thumping and results in death if the heart is not restarted. (You know how a manual car has to be pushed to start when it has certain issues). If the heart isn't manipulated to restart in the shortest possible time,death is eminent. So every second counts and restarting the heart via CPR increases survival chances. WORLD RESTART A HEART DAY Restart a Heart Day is annually set on October 16th and is devoted to create awareness and train people on how to restart hearts that have stopped through CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) This year the theme is: "Your two hands can save a life" Really, all you need are your two hands. The power to preserve lives lies in them🙌. The hands are what are used to administer CPR. Without CPR, the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest is next to zero. You know those annoying buzzing sounds, especially at night. Yes. MOSQUITOES. FIRST AID CARE FOR CAT AND DOG BITES  First aid care will definitely reduce the risk of infection after a cat or dog bite. In administering first aid care for a cat/dog bite, your first aid kit/box will definitely come in handy. Before commencing first aid care, wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer. Then wear gloves, these actions protect you and the victim of the bite. For a minor bite/wound, first aid care is most likely sufficient, the bleeding isn't significant,  but for a deep bite/wound, the bleeding is more, in this case, the first thing to do is to control and stop the bleed.  Washing the wound gently and thoroughly flushes out the bacteria and reduces the risk of an infection. Then rinse wound under running water for 5-10 minutes.  After first aid, be sure to wash your hands.  Be sure to watch out  for the start of an infection during the healing process. Cat and dog bites cause wounds that can become easily infected. Cat bites are more likely to cause an infection than a dog bite. Bites to hands, feet, tendons and joints are most at risk of getting infected.  A bite wound from a cat or dog can get infected and the signs can manifest within a few hours after a bite to a day or 2 after a bite.
