FGM has no benefit to females

Image
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE TO FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM) It is popularly referred to as female circumcision. It is a procedure that involves partial or complete removal of the external females genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.  It is mostly done in the most unsanitary conditions, thereby exposing the fenake to infections. This practice is considered harmful to girls and women and a violation of human rights. FGM causes infertility, maternal death, infections, and the loss of sexual pleasure. Thankfully in the last 30 years, prevalence of the practice has decreased by half in some parts of Nigeria. In May 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan signed a federal law banning FGM, it is however still work in progress as a lot of sensitization and awareness has to be done especially in the rural settings to help people understand the ills of FGM.  #EndFGM #TheFirstAidBoxShop #TheFABS #BeFABulouS

International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation

Image
Today is International Day of zero tolerance to female genital mutilation.  Female genital mutilation (FGM) is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. This practice  violates the females rights to sexual and reproductive health, security and physical integrity, their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death. FGM or female circumcision is not only practised in Africa, but also in the Middle East,  Asia, Latin America and some other places. It is good to know the practice is dying gradually. So it's a continous struggle till it is completely stopped.  Girls who undergo female genital mutilation face short-term complications like severe pain, shock, excessive bleeding, infections, and difficulty in passing urine, as well as long-term consequences for their sexual and reproductive health and mental health. We should all lend our...

Benefits of emergency preparedness

Image
A first aid kit is a collection of items in a container/bag/pouch/box etc. that is used to manage a medical emergency in the absence of professional medical help or before you can access professional medical care (if needed). You know sometimes when the you have the runs, a pharmacy isn't in sight to buy an anti-diarrheal. When a cut occurs or a sprain, a Health Care Provider, more often than not is not in sight. The FABS Mini First Aid Kit is such a reliable ally during medical emergencies. They contain all the bare necessities of a first aid kit. They are small enough to fit into a handbag or a laptop bag. So it's best you have a first aid kit handy to attend immediately to these medical emergencies (minor or major) Don't be caught napping when a medical emergency happens.  Remember- It's better to prepare for a medical emergency and not have one than to have a medical emergency and not be prepared 🤷‍♀️ #FirstAid #FirstAidSavesLives #FirstAidKit #MedicalE...

First aid tip for burns

Image
What is the first thing you do when you experience a burn? Growing up, my mom would run water over the burn and sprinkle salt on it!🙄 Applying ice eggs, salt ,butter, toothpaste and all those other items don't help, rather they have the potential to cause more damage. The first thing to do after a burn is to run cool water over the burn for a minimum of 5 minutes or until the pain eases out. #FirstAid #FirstAidTips #FirstAidForBurns #FirstAidSavesLives #Burns #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

Covid-19 and facemask

Image
There is a right way to wear a facemak. If worn incorrectly, it iffers no protection.  A facemask that is loose offers little or no protection. Ensure the facemask is super close to your skin,a gap between the facemas and the skin leaves space enough to allow droplets get in contact with your skin, mouth or nostrils  #Facemask #Covid-19  #WearAFacemask #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

Covid-19 and facemask

Image
One of the major guidelines for Covid-19 prevention is to wear a facemask when out in public.  A majority of people find  this really uncomfortable and this reduces compliance massively.  The nonmedical facemask or cloth facemask is a preferred option as they are reusable and therefore a more economical option. Just ensure that they are made of breathable fabrics so that you are not so uncomfortable when wearing them. Wearing facemask protects you and others. Play your part in stopping the spread of Covid-19, be responsible.  #Facemasks #Covid-19  #WearAFacemask #StopTheSpread #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS
