Stingers/stings

Image
SOURCES OF STINGS  A stinger, which is sometimes called a sting is an organ possessed by stinging animals (bumbleees, scorpions, wasps, yellow jackets,  hornets, honey bees, fire ants etc.). Stingers are really sharp (as can be seen in the pictures). They pierce the skin of the victim and inject venom into the body or bloodstream of their victims.  The venom is stored in the venom glands of stinging animals. At the point of stinging, they pass the venom to the stinger and pierce the skin, injecting their venom. Some stings are venomous while others aren't.  #Stings #Stingers #Bumblebees #Hornets #FireAnts #Wasps #YellowJackets #HoneyBees #Scorpions #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

Let's talk about the stingers

STINGERS:INSECTS & SCORPIOS  So, lets branch into the lane of animals that sting. What is common to this category is that they inject venom to their victims when they sting. They do this with the aid of body parts referred to as stingers. They are typically found in the outdoors, though there are few incidences of them  striking indoors  Some are SOLITARY STINGERS, like the scorpion. The solitary stingers are encountered one at a time. They are not normally aggressive, they would strike when they are provoked or in contact with skin. SOCIAL INSECTS are normally found in colonies of a few dozens to thousands. They include honey bees, bumblebees, hornets, yellow jackets, fire ants, wasps.... Some are aggressive while others aren't.  In the next couple of days we would be putting out info on: -Sources of the stings -Signs & symptoms of their stings -First aid care & treatment  -When to make a doctor visit  -How to prevent be...

How to prevent mosquito bites

Image
PREVENTING MOSQUITO BITES As usual, prevention is better than a cure.  Mosquito bites usually occurs between dusk to dawn, as they are most active in that time frame. Stagnant water around homes is a no-no, as mosquitoes breed in stagnant waters. Get rid of items or places that collect water, e.g. old /used tyres lying around or empty containers that retain water. Keep swimming pool water moving. Using mosquito nets on door and window frames as well as beds, is amongst the principal ways to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.  When traveling to areas that are known for certain mosquito-borne illnesses (yellow fever, malaria, zika etc.), make inquiries and take the necessary prophylactic measures. #Mosquitoes #MosquitoBites #PreventionOfMosquitoBites #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS
