Prevention of Foreign Objects in the Nose

HOW TO PREVENT FOREIGN OBJECTS FROM GETTING INTO THE NOSE Kids are the mostly the casualties of the occurrence of "Foreign Objects in the Nose". The good thing is that this can be prevented. Here are a few pointers in this prevention: - Discourage kids from sticking/stuffing/putting objects in their noses or in the noses of others. Help them understand that it's a dangerous practice  - Keep small objects (small toys or parts, coins, pebbles,  marbles, button batteries, beads, buttons, nails etc.) out of the reach of kids - Give kids toys that appropriate for their age - Ensure that kids are supervised always  #ForeignObjectsInTheNose #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

When to see a doctor for foreign object in the nose

Image
WHEN TO MAKE A HOSPITAL VISIT FOR FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE NOSE We had mentioned previously that you only attempt to remove an object in the nose only when it is visible and can be easily grasped (with a pair of tweezers). Besides the above scenario, a hospital vist must be made, where they have special skills and tools to safely remove the object.  From the pictures attached,  it is obvious that for the crayons sticking out of the nostrils, removing them will give no headaches but for the others, expertise and special tools are needed. Attempts to dislodge the foreign objects on one's own could further push the objects into the body.  Photo credit:@Slideshare.net @theindependent @healthdigest #ForeignObjectInTheNose #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

How to prevent pneumonia

Image
WORLD PNEUMONIA DAY 2020 Pneumonia is a respiratory infection. It affects the lungs and respiratory tract,  causing them to be inflamed.  It causes the lungs to be filled with mucous or some other fluids. And this causes breathing difficulties.  Prevention is better than a cure. There are vaccines for pneumonia caused by bacteria but none yet for pneumonia caused by virus. Here are a few tips to prevent pneumonia: 1) Wash your hands regularly with soap and water 2)Wear face mask  3)Quit smoking  4)Eat healthy  5)Exercise regularly and get enough rest 6)Practice great hygiene  #WorldPneumoniaDay #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

World Pneumonia Day

Image
WORLD PNEUMONIA DAY Today is World Pneumonia Day  The day is all about raising awareness on pneumonia and ways of prevention.  The theme for this year is "Every Breath Counts " Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. The infection could be caused by bacteria, fungi, virus or parasites.  Pneumonia can be mild, severe or even life-threatening.  Those most vulnerable to Pneumonia are: - Infants  - Children  - Adults (over 65 years) - Smokers and drinkers - People with compromised immune systems  - People with health conditions that affect lungs and heart - Pregnant women  Especially during this era of Covid-19, suffering from pneumonia leads to further complications for those already infected by Covid-19 virus. Hence those who are most vulnerable should be more cautious.  #WorldPneumoniaDay2020 #EveryBreathCounts #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

First Aid for Foreign Object in the Nose

Image
FIRST AID FOR FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE NOSE  One of the aims of first aid, is not to cause further harm.  Object in the nose can be a tricky bit, the aim is to safely remove or dislodge the object ONLY IF IT IS VISIBLE AND CAN BE EASILY GRASPED. The best bet is to take the casualty to a hospital (where it can be safely removed) without compounding the situation. Here are a few "Do's" and "Don'ts" that would help ensure things don't get complicated.  #ForeignObjectInTheNose #ObjectInNose #FirstAid #FirstAidSavesLives #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

Sigs & Symptoms of Foreign Object in the Nose

Image
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE NOSE  Sometimes a foreign object in the nose is obvious because it can be easily seen, or has a part of it sticking out. Or someone might have been present when the foreign object was put in the nose.  At other times, the foreign object might have been there for a while before it becomes obvious that there is something wrong.  The telltale signs have been pointed out in the attached picture.  Difficulty in breathing happens when the object clogs the nostril. You may hear whistling noises when the child breathes through their nose. The nasal discharge/drainage may be clear, grey or bloody. If it's foul smelling, it indicates there is an infection.  For kids, especially when they are unable to communicate, watchout for these signs. #ForeignObjectInTheNose #SignsAndSymptoms #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

Sources of foreign objects in the nose

Image
SOURCES OF FOREIGN OBJECTS IN THE NOSE  Kids, because of their curiosity and their adventurous streak tend to put stuff in their nose. If the object is sharp, it can cause damage to tissues in the nose.  At times, the object may block the nose. Objects in the nose can also cause infections  Here are some items that kids commonly put in their nose: - Small toys - Toy parts - Pencils, crayons and biros - Pieces of eraser - Pieces of paper and tissue - Clay and play dough (used for arts and crafts) - Food  - Buttons - Beads - Pebbles  - Stones  - Dirt - Button batteries This list isn't exhaustive of course  #ForeignObjectsInTheBody #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS  Photo credit: Slideshare.net

Foreign objects in the nose

Image
FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE NOSE Kids are the worse hit by this occurrence. They are quite adventurous and do all sorts of experiments. Putting items in the nose could happen at play, they could stuff things in the nose when mimicking what they have seen others do. When they are unsupervised, a whole lot can go wrong. Sometimes objects in the nose are not visible and an adult might not be aware until certain signs and symptoms present themselves.  We would be giving info on: - Sources/causes of foreign objects in the nose  - Signs and symptoms of foreign objects in the nose  - First aid care and treatment for foreign objects in the nose - When to see a doctor about a foreign object in the nose  - How to prevent foreign objects from entering the nose  This promises to be informative and interesting  #ForeignObjectsInTheBody #ForeignObjectInTheNose #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

Prevention: Foreign Objects

Image
Best to prevent a foreign object from entering the body than dealing with it's consequences.  Kids are most at risk of getting foreign bodies into their bodies, out of curiosity and adventure, most of the time, through their noses, mouths and ears. So it's best not to leave them unattended to. Also only allow them have toys that are appropriate for their age, keep small objects out of their reach. Don't feed them or allow them have food pieces that they can choke on. In adults, foreign objects getting into the body happens mainly out of carelessness or misadventure, so caution should be exercised.  #ForeignObjectsInTheBody #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS
