WORLD FIRST AID DAY 2020

Image
WORLD FIRST AID DAY (WFAD) 2020 Today is World First Aid Day 😁😁😁👏💃💃💃 Every 2nd Saturday in the month of September  is WFAD😁 The plan is to let the world know of the benefits of first aid and how it saves lives. It's a day we encourage everyone to get first aid skills and first aid kits  You never know when that first aid skill would save the day  It's better to prepare for an emergency and not have one than to have an emergency and not be prepared  Happy world first aid day!!! #WorldFirstAidDay2020 #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

PREVENTIVE MEASURES ARE SOOOO MUCH BETTER AND EASIER IN CO POISONING

Image
HOW TO PREVENT CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING  Prevention is always, always better than a cure! Remember we have established the fact that CO can quietly creep in on the victim(s) as it doesn't smell, can't be tasted, can't be seen nor heard.  We have also advised that CO emitters should be used outdoors to avoid CO poisoning.  Another great way to prevent CO poisoning is to install CO detectors/alarms in buildings/areas that are vulnerable to  CO poisoning.  The CO alarms/detectors go off when the CO level has reached an unsafe level/concentration thereby alerting people on the danger lurking around.  Be safety conscious! Need first aid kits? Let's hook you up 😁 #CarbonMonoxidePoisoning #TheFABS #BeFABulouS

WHEN TO MAKE THAT DOCTOR VISIT IN A CASE OF CO POISONING

Image
The signs and symptoms of CO poisoning starts off in subtle ways, they can almost go unnoticed and hence ignored. The longer the exposure to CO, the more intense the poisoning and the more severe the signs and symptoms  After taking the casualty out to where there is an abundance of fresh air, a hospital visit is still recommended, even if they seem alright.  You have need of a first aid box/kit? We are a call away or send us a message  #CarbonMonoxidePoisoning  #TheFabs #BeFABulouS

TREATMENT FOR CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING

Image
Let's remember that first aid care is the immediate help or assistance that is given to someone who has suddenly fallen ill or become injured Sometimes it is sufficient to manage the situation, at other times, a visit to the ER is still  needed If the level of exposure to CO is high, a hospital visit must be made We had mentioned earlier that CO displaces Oxygen in the system. Now, the antidote for CO poisoning is Oxygen! Oxygen can be delivered back into the body system via 1)Oxygen mask (by a face mask) 2)Hyperbaric chamber (casualty is placed in a chamber that is pressurized and contains oxygen) 3)Receiving fresh air from the atmosphere (taking the casualty outside) The first 2 processes are done in a medical facility while the third is a first aid intervention  Need first aid kits and skills? YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY IN SUICIDE PREVENTION, RIGHT?

Image
WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY (WSPD) 2020 The theme for this year is - Working Together To Prevent Suicide  We all gave a role to play in the prevention of suicide  "For people who are feeling vulnerable or distressed, having a strong sense of connection is an important part of suicide prevention. Connection can come in many forms: we can connect with friends and family, have connections through activities, or with nature and the arts." Source: www.seandcessexmind.org.uk The world is burdened with the Covid 19 pandemic. The pandemic has caused massive strain on world economy that has trickled to individuals. Living standards have dropped. Surviving has become a massive hassle We all need encouragement.  Never ever give up We need to look out for each other We need to know when and where to get professional help  If we all care and show concern for each other, then we can prevent and reduce the occurrence and frequency of suicides #WSPD #WorkingTogetherToPr...

WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY 2020

Image
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP).  The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented. The ongoing pandemic has caused a higher level of depression, anxiety, suicidal tendencies and psychological trauma. Suicidal thoughts, or suicidal ideation, means thinking about or planning suicide.Thoughts can range from a detailed plan to a fleeting consideration.  Suicidal ideation can occur when a person feels they are no longer able to cope with an overwhelming situation. This could stem from financial problems, death of a loved on, a broken relationship, or a devastating or debilitating illness. SUICIDE IS PREVENTABLE SUICIDE IS NEVER A SOLUTION  SUICIDE IS A TRANSFER OF PAIN TO COUNTLESS LOVED ONES SUICIDE IS AN ILLNESS SUICIDE CANNOT JUST BE WISHED AWAY Let's watch out for others and be more sensitive .We all have a part to play ...

FIRST AID CARE FOR CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING

Image
Once you come across a victim of CO poisoning, it is important act super fast especially if they are unconscious as every second counts The aims of first aid care for casualties of CO poisoning are: (i)To Restore Adequate Breathing  (ii) To get them to a hospital for more specialized care These are the steps to take in administering first aid care - Immediately move the person outside (where there is an abundance of fresh air), away from carbon monoxide area But do not put yourself in danger by staying too long in the CO rich space, so you don't become a victim yourself  - If the person isn't breathing at all or not breathing normally, immediately perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) then send for help EMS or arrange to transport them to a hospital. Continue CPR until the casualty begins breathing or medical professional help is available  - Also ensure that you loosen any tight clothing, especially around the neck - Turn off the source of the CO poison...

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING

Image
Depending on the level of exposure to CO, the signs and symptoms develop gradually  From mild headache to a more intense headache and with prolonged exposure, death results.  #CarbonMonoxidePoisoning #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

SOURCES OF CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING

Image
A source of CO is also a potential source of CO poisoning  Here is a quick list so we can be cautious  - Burning charcoal  - Generators  - Barbecue grills - Gas stoves or ovens - Tobacco smoke - Water heaters - Automobiles  - Fireplaces  - Furnaces -Clothes dryer  - Lawnmowers  - Any burning material (wood, bush, clothing, papers etc) All of the above have legit uses, but improper causes exposure to CO poisoning. Need a first aid kit? Give us a buzz🙂 #CarbonMonoxidePoisoning #TheFABS  #BeFABulouS

THE 411 ON CARBON MONOXIDE

Image
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) IN A NUTSHELL  Here are some facts about CO - It is a toxic air pollutant  - It is produced whenever any material is burned. Basically,  carbon containing fuels (charcoal, wood, oil, paper, clothes, gasoline, petrol....) - It can be produced by household equipments, vehicles, outdoor equipments and outdoor activities  - It is odorless, tasteless, colorless, in fact, cannot be detected with the human senses  - Since it can't be detected by our senses, it is impossible to know when it is being inhaled, until someone begins to fall ill from its inhalation  - It displaces the much needed oxygen in the body - It can cause various levels of illness as well as death -CO poisoning is mostly accidental (accidental inhalation of CO) The dangers that CO poses are real and should not be ignored  Be proactive about being on top of medical emergencies.  Do you have first aid skills and kits?
