Have you ever gone on vacay, a work trip or just gone out of town, then you come down impromptu with a GIT (GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT) palaver e.g. the runs, tummy cramps, constipation...... or come down with a nasty cold or flu? If you have ever had such an experience, one thing that would have been on your mind is : "i wish my meds were here". The experience of someone who suffered from bloating

MANAGING BLOATING:YOYO'S EXPERIENCE  So previously we had mentioned that eating too much and too fast was a cause of bloating. I have a true story to tell😁 So you see the guy in the picture, he's my kid brother,Yoyo 😝. Growing up he used to suffer bouts of bloating.  So we all went to boarding school, and when we come home for the holidays, Yoyo made it a point of duty to make up for lost nourishment he missed out on while at school.  He would eat heavily and at supersonic speed.🤦‍♀️. Next thing, he comes up bloatttteeeeddd. His typical symptoms were the -distended tummy -discomfort -constipation -endless farting  -belching non stop So my mom's therapy for him was Andrew's liver salt, Tomtom sweets, gelusil tabs. And my paternal grandmom's  (we called her Bigmama) therapy was to insert a piece of soap in his bum🤷‍♀️😱🤦‍♀️🤣🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️, yes, through his anus. Yoyo never found this one bit funny, he would wail and has to be held firmly to...

BLOATING!!! Here is a common condition that almost everyone has had to contend with at some point or the other, some people more often than others. When i think of bloating, balloons  come to mind🙃  In ordinary terms Bloating is a condition in which gas is trapped in the tummy and/or GIT. Foods eaten that cause a buildup of gas in the tummy is the usual cause, though there are several other causes. Bloating leaves one feeling full, tummy feels tight, it causes discomfort and sometimes pain. TREATMENT FOR IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) Managing IBS is individual based, treatment has to be tailored to a person's peculiarity of condition. No single treatment can be applied to all IBS patients.  You and your HCP (health care professional) can find out what best works for you. Know what triggers your IBS  and avoid them as much as possible.  The most usual/popular suspects of IBS triggers are dairy products, wheat,citrus fruits, alcohol and caffeine containing beverages, avoid them like a plague.  IBS doesn't really have a cure but can be effectively managed. A change of lifestyle and diet as well as meds can be such a great help. If you suffer IBS-D, reduce your intake of tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, alcohol and oily foods. SYMPTOMS OF IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) With IBS, symptoms could last between a couple of weeks and up to 6 months. The symptoms are quite diverse. Gor females, they tend to increase especially during their periods. Wha causes IBS?

CAUSES OF IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) IBS is a tricky one! The cause(s) of IBS isn't really known! There are however some suspected causes or risk factors. What is certain however is that the colon (large intestine) gets super sensitive and over-reacts to mild stimulation. So you have a situation where normal muscle movements (peristalsis) of the colon now becomes spastic (or more exaggerated)! In some cases the colon contractions are strong (which leads to diarrhoea) at other times the contractions are weak (leads to constipation). IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) Massive words???🙃 Truth is IBS has not been completely understood,  diagnosis is best made by a HCP (Health Care Professional) So you know that in the digestive system there exists the large intestine (colon), well, this is the portion that is affected. The muscles of the colon contract abnormally. This causes pain and/or discomfort.  IBS occurs more in females than males. More in persons under 50 years. There are 4 types, depending on the symptoms it presents: i) IBS-C👉when it presents with constipation  ii) IBS-D👉when it presents with Diarrhoea  iii)IBS-M👉when it alternates between  constipation and diarrhoea iv)IBS-U👉when it can't be categorized with constipation or diarrhoea  Managing IBS involves a diet and lifestyle change as certain lifestyles and diet can trigger it.
