When to se a doctor for a human bite

Even after the initial first aid care administered for human bites, there might still be a need to make that hospital visit.

Remember,  first aid is the first help that is given to someone who has being injured or suddenly fallen ill. Sometimes professional care must still be accessed.

Here is a list of conditions that require a visit to the doctor's for human bites:

-When direct pressure on the bite wound won't stop the bleed, even after 15 minutes

-When you think the bite caused a bone to break, when you suspect damage to nerve, tendons or joint

-If the bite gets infected

-If the victim is diabetic

-If the victim has a compromised immune system as a result of an illness (e.g. cancer, AIDS...)

-If there is tissue loss as a result of the bite

-Not up to date on tetanus vaccination

-If the bite is deep

-Bites on face, feet, hands, genitalia, head/scalp (especially for kids), ear, nose

-If they experience stiffness, numbness or lack of mobility in the affected area

If the above are observed or experienced, make that doctor visit to prevent a bad situation from getting worse.
