Intro:Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is when someone stops breathing temporarily while sleeping. It is a potentially dangerous sleep disorder. Breathing stops and starts again repeatedly during sleep.

Let's tell you how this happens. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Did you know that when you sleep that the muscles of your body relax? They actually take a rest๐Ÿ˜.

Sometimes they relax too much๐Ÿ™„. When this happens, the muscles around the windpipe/trachea (takes air/oxygen from nose and mouth to the lungs) rest on the windpipe and this is the reason people snore๐Ÿคฆ‍♀️, sometimes people can even stop breathing for a bit ๐Ÿ˜ฑ (because air flow has been obstructed).

So you now know why people snore and how someone can stop breathing while sleeping. It is possible that you suffer sleep apnea if you snore.

If sleep apnea happens the brain senses the person has stopped breathing and so wakes them up so you can resume breathing. This arousal is brief, you might not even remember ๐Ÿค”.

Have you ever slept by someone and you heard the person snore, then snort? Well that is when the person is being prompted by the brain to resume breathing. Interesting right?๐Ÿ˜
