The FABS (The First Aid Box Shop) Nuggets For The Festive Season

The season is here, a time we all seem to over indulge in good food and alcohol consumption!
Here are a few nuggets on how to stay healthy and safe.

Some ailments that we are faced with when we throw caution to the winds and depending on our physiology, what type of food/drink we consume, their quantities and our tolerance to what goes down our throats are:

Constipation
Heart burns
Alcohol poisoning
Indigestion
Diarrhoea
Food poisoning
Stomach cramps
Nausea and vomiting

EATING TIPS
Now to avoid digestion issues, a general rule would be that you should know the kind of foods that your body cannot tolerate.
-Drink sufficient water
-Include fiber in your meals (veggies, fruits, nuts…)
-Hygiene in food preparation is important (trust your source if you have to eat)
-Don’t be a glutton (when you are full, please walk away)

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION TIPS
The general rule is to know your limits.
-Do not drink on empty tummy
-Drink in moderation
-Avoid drinking games
-Don’t drink too fast
-Avoid mixing your drinks, if are drinking wine, stick with that, if liquor, stick with it
-Drink water in between
-Don’t drink and drive

Ensure you have your drug box or first aid box sufficiently stocked. So what are the essentials for this season?
Antacids
ORS (oral rehydration salts)
OTC analgesic (paracetamol)
Laxatives

Seek medical help when necessary, home care or first aid care does not always rule out the need of a health care provider.

We at The FABS are sending season’s greetings. Eat and drink sensibly, you can never go wrong if you do.
