THE DON’TS OF HOW TO STOP A BLEED

There are actions we may take that could cause further harm, so we need to be informed to do the right things:
  1. Do not use home remedies like chilli powder, cinnamon powder, vinegar, etc. to try to stop or manage a bleed
  2. Don’t use a tourniquet unless the wound is large and severe (e.g. amputation) as it can lead to tissue death
  3. Do not try and remove an embedded object like a knife or branch, as it could be plugging the wound from bleeding out
  4. Do not try and pick out foreign material that may be embedded in a deep wound
  5. Don’t apply the bandage too tightly – fingers and toes should not be pale, blue or cold
  6. Do not replace the bottom cloth/pad if the wound bleeds through; instead add another on top of the existing cloth/pad. If that one bleeds through, replace the top cloth/pad only.
  7. Do not cough, sneeze or talk while managing the wound if possible
  8. Do not touch the dressing surface that will be in contact with the wound
  9. Do not apply pressure to an eye injury
  10. Do not move anyone with an injury to the head, neck, back or leg
We hope you take note of these and don't aggravate a bleed instead of mending one
