STAGES OF ALCOHOL INTOXICATION

Ever taken a little too much of alcohol or way too much of alcohol? Come check out what base you might have touched.

Well i am sure some of us would have had an experience of alcohol intoxication or might have been witness to others that might have suffered alcohol intoxication.

The truth is most people dont know the dangers of alcohol intoxication or are completely oblivious to how close they might have been to death as a result of alcohol poisoning

So there are 7 stages of alcohol intoxication.

Here we will be talking about these stages, characteristic behaviours of those at these different stages as well as the BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentrations) of the different stages

Stage 1: SOBRIETY

The BAC range is 0.01-0.05
At this stage, the person looks like they are ok. Impairment sometimes is absolutely absent

Stage 2: EUPHORIA

The BAC range is 0.03-0.12
This stage is when people feel tipsy. The person feels confident, becomes more talkative and animated. Inhibitions begin to disappear. Impairment increases

Stage 3: EXCITEMENT

The BAC range is 0.09-0.25
There is emotional instability, some people get mushy 1 minute and the next they are super enraged, some may cry, be subdued, they move to different extremes on the emotional spectrum. They lack critical judgment. There might be slurred speech. Loss of balance. Nausea and vomiting. Drowsiness

Stage 4: CONFUSION

The BAC range is  0.18-0.30
Emotional instability becomes more pronounced. There is disorientation. Increase in impairment. They can hardly stand or may stand and waiver. They stagger while walking. Feel very dizzy. They are oblivious to things that happen to them or events around them. They feel no pain

Stage 5: STUPOR

The BAC range is 0.25-0.40
This is a dangerous stage. The level of alcohol poisoning is high. Death is a possibility. They hardly respond to any form of stimulation. They can't walk or stand. They can take a leak on themselves. May vomit

Stage 6: COMA

The BAC range is 0.35-0.45
The individual can slip into a coma. Respiration and blood circulation is significantly reduced.  The body temperature drops, they begin to shiver. Death is likely to occur if there is delayed medical intervention

Stage 7: DEATH

The BAC is above 0.45
At this stage there is respiratory arrest which sadly leads to death. However, there are people who have died from alcohol poisoning with lower BAC of 0.45

We hope we now have a better understanding of how high BAC endangers. When someone is at the stupor stage, an intervention is highly recommended
