Choking in infants & kids

Anyone can be a victim of a choking episode, infants and kids are sadly not spared.

They can choke when being breastfed!

At times the foods we give them could be hazardous 😔😱🤔. When we are introducing semi-solids or solid forms of food to them, caution must be taken to ensure that the food bits are small enough not to cause them to choke. Pieces of sausages, nuts e.g. cashew nuts, peanut, popcorn, biscuits, slices of fruits, veggies etc.

Even pasty forms of foods can cause them to choke (peanut butter, formulas ...), so they should be given in little portions.

We must discourage the from running around during meal times or when they snacking. Discourage them from talking, laughing and generally playing while eating. Discourage them from eating or drinking too fast.

And of course keep an eye on them so it is spotted on time should a choking episode start.
