Signs and symptoms that there is a foreign object in the body

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF FOREIGN OBJECTS IN THE BODY

Sometimes the presence of a foreign object in the body is obvious, at other times, it might not be so obvious.

Imagine a child swallowing a pebble or inserting a pebble in the nostril. At times the pebble might be seen at other times might disappear into the body without the knowledge of an adult.

A knife stab with the knife still stuck in the victim is definitely obvious.

So, it depends on the location that the foreign object is and size of the foreign object.

Here are general signs and symptoms to expect when a foreign object is in the body.

- Pain (might be mild to severe)
- Discomfort
- Might be seen (if not fully embedded or swallowed)
- Choking
- Coughing
- Nasal drainage (when object is in the nose)
- Breathing problems (when object is in the airway)
- Infection (when object has been there for a while)
- Wheezing
- Blurred vision
- Redness and watering of the eyes
- Inflammation
- Noisy breathing
- Smelly or bloody discharge

Remember foreign objects are alien to the body and must be removed ASAP, sometimes professionally at other times, can be handled by just about anybody.
