MYTHS ABOUT SWALLOWING FRUIT SEEDS

See these orange seeds right here? Growing up as a child, i had my fair share of swallowing them. My siblings too must have had their's too.

If you were a child that grew up in Nigeria,  i am sure my experience would be something you can relate with.

So while sucking on an orange i would mistakenly swallow a seed or more, and i don't know why i had to always report the incidents, i had the best uncles- uncle Ralph, uncle Tony and uncle Israel, i would inform them and they would tell me the story of a child that swallowed orange seeds and eventually the orange seeds sprouted and grew out of the head of this poor child, and then the tree eventually started bearing fruits. 😱

That people would come and pluck oranges from off the tree on the child's head😭😭😭

My uncles had the straightest faces when telling this story🥺🤔😐

This story didn't stop me from accidentally swallowing orange seeds and i will still carry my knock knees to hear the horror story repeated, at times when they see my sad face, they would ask how many i swallowed, if i say one, they would say stuff like, ok, only one tree would grow., the more the seeds, the more the trees🥺🥺🥺.

I had a mental picture of an orange tree on my head and it was a scary thought. Every day without the orange tree sprouting was a relief.

I don't recall at what age i stopped falling for that story 😊.

I remembered this because we are all about "foreign objects in the body" this month. Yes orange seeds are foreign objects, thankfully first aid intervention isn't needed for it, except it is swallowed by a baby and it causes choking.
