HEART DISEASE KILLS MORE THAN CANCER

How true is this statement? Just this past month alone, there have been notable deaths of people who have slumped and died e.g Deji Tinubu, a Finance Director slumped and died while taking part in badminton tourney earlier this week, a final year undergraduate of FUTA slumped and died while playing football and there are many which didn't make the news. In all these stories that made the newspaper or online media you never read a part that CPR was first administered or an AED was on site and used. This will will tell you how ill-prepared we are to handle immediate cases of heart attack or heart failure, that could have been solved by implementing CPR or using an AED.
There is term called social resuscitation. This term can simply be described as resuscitating not just the patient or victim of a heart attack but also resuscitating their family and friends which in turn will have a positive effect on our society. Therefore, if we all learn the the act of first aid skills such as CPR, we would end up restoring faith in society.
But we don't have to get to that point where we need to be resuscitated. There are things we can do to prevent the sad and painful experience of heart attack or failure. According to cardiologist Dr. Marc Baker in a recent article on auburnpub.com:
...a lot of heart issues stem from things people can control day to day, like their diet and lifestyle. Some things Baker suggests to his patients include eating more leafy green vegetables. Collard greens, spinach, kale, all have nutrients the body needs to keep a heart healthy.
They found coronary disease in mummies that died in their 20s, and they didn't have Camel Lights and burgers and things. So there are clearly things we can't control, so we should be religious about what we can control," Baker said. "People can get a heart transplant ... but there literally are not enough hearts for all of us to get a heart transplant, so we have to take care of the one we have.
He goes on to suggest eating tree nut, like walnuts, to a person's diet in order to keep up the protein intake and reduce risk of heart disease and regular exercise. I would suggest asking your local doctor or cardiologist what you can do to have healthy heart. You still need to learn the act of CPR to be of help to person in need. After they have been fully resuscitated, request that the victim go ahead and see their doctor for a checkup to ascertain what went wrong.
