POISON CONTROL CENTER

What is a poisons control centre?

A poisons control center is a specialized unit that advises on, and assists with, the prevention, diagnosis and management of poisoning.

A poisons centre is an information service. Some poisons centres may also include a toxicology laboratory and/or a clinical treatment unit.

On a normal, every country should have a poisons control centre, delegated with the responsibilities of:
- answering enquiries about exposure to chemical agents, including
(1)products
(2)pharmaceuticals
(3)natural toxins (animal & plant origin)
(4)pesticides
(5)industrial chemicals

Unfortunately, we are not aware of the existence of  a Nigeria Poison Control Center, saddled with the above responsibilities

With the existence and rise of people dying as a result of poisoning (deaths by sniper and CO poisoning), one would expect a poisons institute to rise to the occasion. We hope that if they exist, that they make themselves relevant and visible, if they don't, we hope the government sees the need to establish one

In the interim, let's keep getting informed,to preserve lives
