What not to do when removing foreign objects in the ear

FIRST AID CARE FOR FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE EAR

Remember that in rendering first aid, it is important not to cause further harm.

In the poster attached are some important info on what not to do when administering first aid care for a casualty that has a foreign object in the ear.

In addition here are some explanations on the info given:

-Sometimes people use cotton buds, matchsticks, toothpicks and other toolswhen trying to dislodge foreign objects (e.g. beads, pebbles, bottons etc.) from the ears, the thing is that this could cause further harm as the objects are most likely further pushed into the ear.

-Remember, once the object isn't visible or pliable or can't be easily grasped with a pair of tweezers, don't burther attempting to dislodge,   take the casualty to the hospital where they have tools to professionally remove it.

-If the eardrum is damaged there will be bleeding from the ears, there wil be pain and there might be discharge. So do not attempt to use mineral oils to remove insects once the eardrum is damaged or if there is an ear tube in place.
