Drawing the curtains on Constipation
CONSTIPATION IN SOME POPULATIONS
In drawing the curtains on constipation, lets have a quick look at constipation in pregnancy,  new borns and babies.
Constipation in Pregnancy
Quite a number of women experience constipation during pregnancy. This could be traced to
-hormonal changes
-change in diet
-increase in iron intake
reduction in physical activities
-physical changes
To address this and to prevent it, refer to our older posts on prevention and management of constipation
Constipation in New Borns
New borns are expected to stool their first solid stool within the first 48 hours after birth, if this doesn't happen, constipation could occur.
To avert this, the attention of the doctor must be sought, so that an investigation and a solution is proffered.
Constipation in Babies
This could happen when formula is introduced to the baby, when the baby is being weaned or when the baby is being potty trained.
Increase water intake. If the baby is already taking semi solid or solid meals then increase water intake or water content of the foods. Also introduce fiber and fruits
