TREATMENT FOR FECAL IMPACTION 

Trust me, an experience of fecal impaction is totally undesirable. It's best to prevent it from happening at all.

In the poster attached are treatment options.

In the enema option, liquid is introduced into the rectum to help expel the hardened poo

In the water irrigation option, water is pumped into the rectum, warm water preferably, this also helps in the removal of the hardened poo

Medicines that could also be used in freeing the rectum of hardened poo are

-Suppositories:they are inserted into the rectum,they help draw water to the hardened poo,which helps with it's expulsion 

-Laxatives:these are given orally and they help the system produce more water to soften the poo so it can be easily passed out

-Stool softeners:these are mostly taken orally to help soften the stool e.g. liquid paraffin 

-Lubricants:these are mostly applied through the anus to create lubrication for an easy passage of the hardened stool

The hardened stool can be broken down with the fingers (gloved fingers of course). This is best done by a HCP.

Prevention of fecal impaction is so much better than going through the pain and discomfort as well as the treatment.
