First Aid for Fainting

Image
I got a call from one of my brothers earlier on today.  He had gone to get some meds from a pharmacy and there was some drama: another patron fainted and those around started pouring water on the casualty πŸ™†‍♀️🀦‍♀️🀷‍♀️ Yesterday we had put out a post asking πŸ‘‰ would you know what to do if you were present during a medical emergency? At least my brother knew that pouring water on someone who has passed out isn't recommended at all. So he calls me for the first aid intervention for the situation.  When someone faints, they are unconscious but they're breathing. Fainting occurs as a result of inadequate blood supply to the brain. Fainting could occur as a result ofa variety of causes- tiredness, hunger, stress, pain, strenuous activities or even long periods of inactivity.  So the solution is to improve blood flow to the brain. If you are present when someone faints/slumps/passes out, first ensure they are breathing, don't allow people to crowd around the casua...

Covid-19: Be responsible and considerate

Image
Covid-19 Alert It's so easy for us to carry on like Covid-19 is totally out the doors. Simply because we don't know anyone who has suffered or died from contracting Covid-19 doesn't make it a fable. We really should take responsibility for our survival and safety, and be considerate of others. The stress of constantly wearing a facemask when in public, constantly washing our hands, trying to social distance, use of hand sanitizer...... is absolutely worth it. Those who have had to experience the nasty signs and symptoms of Covid-19 and survived it, would tell you to do all you can to stay Covid-19 free. Let's take responsibility  #covid_19  #coronavirus  #TheFABS  #TheFirstAidBoxShop  #BeFABulouS

What Makes a Heartburn Happen???

Image
WHAT CAUSES HEARTBURN  Don't let these pictures attached put you off. I promise this isn't a biology class😁. We are just setting up an easy foundation.   So we know Mr Oesophagus right? Here is a little refresher, it is the tube that connects the mouth to the tummy. Food travels from the mouth via the oesophagus to the tummy. At the point where the oesophagus hooks up with the tummy. There is a muscle that opens up to let food move from the oesophagus into the tummy. It also shuts to stop  the contents of the tummy (food and gastric acids) from traveling back up the oesophagus.  If this muscle is slack, gastric acids can go up the oesophagus and cause the sensation we know as HEARTBURN (warm or burning sensation in the chest region) Told you it wasn't too much biology πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜… #Heartburn  #HeartburnCauses #digestivehealth  #digestiveailments #gastrointestinalhealth  #gastrointestinalailnents  #TheFABS  #TheFirstAid...

Heartburn is a burning sensation that is painful and/or uncomfortable. It is felt in the upper and/or middle area of the chest or even upper part of the stomach. The pain can sometimes radiate to the neck/throat, jaw or arms. Sometimes the mouth would taste bitter. The pain is usually worse after a (heavy) meal, when you are lying down or bending over. It could last for minutes or even hours. It isn't usually a big deal that requires a visit to the hospital. Lifestyle changes, home remedies and OTC meds are usually adequate in its management. So this is what causes a heartburn. In the digestion process, there are acids that are in the tummy that help in food digestion. If the acids(from the tummy) back up into the oesophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the tummy), it causes th...
