Here is a little refresher, it is the tube that connects the mouth to the tummy. Food travels from the mouth via the oesophagus to the tummy. At the point where the oesophagus hooks up with the tummy. There is a muscle that opens up to let food move from the oesophagus into the tummy. HEARTBURN  Most people are familiar with the term "Heartburn". Heartburn of cause doesn't mean the heart is burning 😝. But it sure feels like something is burning! CONSTIPATION!!! This is another quite common medical condition. The normal frequency for bowel movements (to poo) ranges from 3 times a day to 3 times a week. So, it's totally ok to poo just 3 times a week (as long as the poo has a normal consistency ie not too hard or too loose) Constipation is to poo hard stool less than 3 times a week (so if you poo only once or twice a week, you are most likely constipated, especially if the poo is hard)  It's not restricted to any age bracket, however as we get older (ie older adults), it seems to occur more often, some women seem to experience it more during pregnancy. So we are drawing the curtains down on bloating today to start off the next topic. Let's briefly mention how gas is generated in the body: i) as a result of the digestion process, so it's actually a byproduct of the digestion process.  ii) swallowing air from certain activities e.g. eating, drinking (especially with a straw), chewing bubble gum, smoking..... Now, it is of course perfectly normal for us let out the gas via farting or belching. Normally,we can pass out the gas  up to 10 times daily, some people can do this up to 20 times even, depending on the type of foods eaten or activities done.  Also certain GIT conditions make one more prone to passing out gas more frequently.  Holding in gas isn't good! Have you ever gone on vacay, a work trip or just gone out of town, then you come down impromptu with a GIT (GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT) palaver e.g. the runs, tummy cramps, constipation...... or come down with a nasty cold or flu? If you have ever had such an experience, one thing that would have been on your mind is : "i wish my meds were here". Sometimes we have certain meds that seem to work for us but are not available at our holiday destination or new station.  Well, if you have your travel first aid kit with you and you remember to include your peculiar meds, then you are covered. We all need to prep for medical emergencies. The experience of someone who suffered from bloating

MANAGING BLOATING:YOYO'S EXPERIENCE  So previously we had mentioned that eating too much and too fast was a cause of bloating. I have a true story to tell😁 So you see the guy in the picture, he's my kid brother,Yoyo 😝. Growing up he used to suffer bouts of bloating.  So we all went to boarding school, and when we come home for the holidays, Yoyo made it a point of duty to make up for lost nourishment he missed out on while at school.  He would eat heavily and at supersonic speed.🤦‍♀️. Next thing, he comes up bloatttteeeeddd. His typical symptoms were the -distended tummy -discomfort -constipation -endless farting  -belching non stop So my mom's therapy for him was Andrew's liver salt, Tomtom sweets, gelusil tabs. And my paternal grandmom's  (we called her Bigmama) therapy was to insert a piece of soap in his bum🤷‍♀️😱🤦‍♀️🤣🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️, yes, through his anus. Yoyo never found this one bit funny, he would wail and has to be held firmly to...
